A short but rewarding safari designed to give you a taste of Tanzania’s wildlife, combining Tarangire’s elephants with the Ngorongoro Crater’s dense animal population.
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be met by your professional safari guide and transferred to your hotel in Arusha, a journey that takes approximately one hour. As you drive through the outskirts of the city, you will get your first glimpse of local life and landscapes. After check-in, the remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing you to relax after your flight. You may enjoy the hotel facilities, take a swim, or simply unwind in preparation for your safari. In the evening, your guide will meet you for a detailed briefing, walking you through the itinerary, expected wildlife encounters, and important travel tips.
Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After an early breakfast, you depart Arusha for Tarangire National Park, a scenic drive of approximately 2.5 to 3 hours through Maasai villages and open countryside. Upon entering the park, the landscape opens into golden savannah dotted with iconic baobab trees. You begin your game drive immediately, following wildlife tracks along the Tarangire River, which serves as a vital water source for animals. Large herds of elephants are commonly seen here, often moving in groups across the plains. Throughout the day, you may also encounter lions resting in the shade, giraffes browsing acacia trees, zebras grazing in herds, and a variety of birdlife. A picnic lunch is enjoyed at a designated site within the park, offering views of the surrounding wilderness. In the late afternoon, you exit the park and drive to Karatu, where you arrive at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater Safari and Return to Arusha
You will depart early in the morning after breakfast and drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Upon arrival, you descend approximately 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater, a vast volcanic caldera that supports one of the highest densities of wildlife in Africa. As you explore the crater floor, you will encounter a remarkable variety of animals including lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, and hippos. The crater is also one of the best places to spot the rare black rhinoceros. Around midday, you will stop at a scenic picnic site near a hippo pool to enjoy your lunch. Afterward, you continue your game drive before ascending the crater and beginning your return journey to Arusha. You will arrive in the late afternoon, where you will be dropped off at your hotel or transferred to the airport for your onward journey.
